Most people hear a voice internally as they're singing... usually it's the original artist of the song they're singing (or how they want to hear it)... and don't get to hear their own voice. This is why you see professional artists wearing big headphones when they're recording. The headphones are playing back their own voice directly, so they can REALLY hear how they sound (and adjust accordingly).
