You guys do love your trashy reality US TV, huh? Actually, much as I love Glee, the best new show in the US this year is Modern Family on ABC. If you can get it online at all there (on hulu.com here in the States), you really should catch it.
Glad that Dominic is back though – much as I love all you boys, it is just a different podcast when he is not on.

And, no, I am not just commenting because I am a shout out whore…

Hey guys!
It is my first time here directly from the other side of the globe, or to be more specific, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!
I must say that I only came here because of Dominic, but it was very nice to meet you all.
So… are you going to be here for the 2016 Olympic Games?
Hugs!

Oh… And I know how popular is this Vegemite, but in the video Dominic posted in his FB, it really looked very disgusting… lol

Finally! It took 5 Australians to pronounce my name properly! Rrrrrramon! Hahaha! OMG! Thanks for the shot out — I feel so honored being mentioned in Podcast 64. As soon as I got the notification in my mobile through Facebook I immediately clicked on iTunes and listened to you, the Fab Five! I am so amused that you guys are much more learned about American rubbish TV. Honestly I can’t stand them…mmmm…except for Tantrums and Tiaras! LOL! Keep up the good work! You make life easier to “bear” in this otherwise mayhem of a world we live in.

P.S. My official nomination was sent to info@thecompletebear.com just a few minutes ago.

I know Craige and Dom will appreciate this: I’m listening to this episode on my iPod on a bus towards the University of Minnesota, I tried to keep my laughing down so passengers won’t look at me funny. Then, Clinton started imitating that “queen” from Northern Exposure at the amusement park – I lost it! I couldn’t hold back – it was Podcast Gold! Thanks, Clinton! And, thanks guys!

Interesting politics in the last two Podcasts – shame you aren’t in the UK I’m sure the Daily Mail would be willing to serialise you!

Just wanting to correct you on a couple of points RE Northern Exposure:
- The nametags are intended as a courtesy to full pass holders and are not intended to replace the tickets. Everybody was given tickets (nametag or not) and as you would expect with any bus, airline or theme park, you were required to hand them over in exchange for the event. A name tag is only there to show your name to other guests. A lot of people do not always wear their nametags when coming to an event because they are quite uncomfortable with the laminated pointy edges. I was at Bear Essentials this year and they did include tickets in their packs as I remember. One being a discount entry to an “unofficial event” at the sauna…
- You don’t have to give your name at the cruise if you had brought your ticket.
- There were no problems at the pool at all. Last year the general public were present at the beginning and the arrangement was not changed in any respect. Feel free to ask Brian Emerson. It is a Brisbane Council public pool. They will not change the temperature for a group booking.
- Although not a correction, a clarification is that the Sportsman Hotel themselves stipulated that the bears must evacuate the upstairs bar by 5pm as they were going to start serving dinner. We were unable to work around this except for opening downstairs….
- The price of the Sunday Farewell this year was cheaper than the previous year by about $20 or $25. This was done as a workaround for the liquor licencing laws. The “Happy Hour”s were instituted by the Sportman Hotel so that instead of Brisbears spending your money on booze, you are spending the extra $20 or $25 on booze yourself on cheaper than normal drinks. This is all lawful and works out cheaper for those who do not drink at all.
We do accept the constructive criticism such as:
-The walk was too long and needs to take a different route. This has been noted and will be put into consideration for next time.
-Considering the liquor licencing laws are here to stay, we may be able to drop the price of the Sunday night further. The cover charge is so we can pay for the decorations, lighting, sound and DJs.
-Buses to places like Dreamworld will be considered as an alternative to public transport buses and trains. This was originally rejected due to the fear we may not meet the budget. The public transport out to Dreamworld is usually pretty good, takes about the same amount of time and costs around $10. The train is able to be caught from the same station that all events are planned from (Central). This charge was not able to be put on top of the regular price once ticket sales had started. We try to keep the ticket price low so that guys travelling interstate or international are not discouraged by price. We will take this into account for next year.
-The inexperience of the committee is showing. Yes it is. There’s only way to get experience. That is by “doing”.
In closing i’d like to mention that I would like to see the next committee using the MiCat as the boat next year. The Mirimar the year before maxed out capacity at 150 including the crew. This year we had 185 people onboard the MiCat not including the crew. We’ve been speaking with the MiCat booking contact about maybe doing a day trip next time and go to Tangalooma Island (snorkelling and sand tobogganing). It didn’t fit into the schedule this year but it could very well make it into the next NEX.
The committee now has some experience to draw upon (assuming that Anthony or myself stay in for next year), so now we know what to expect from a planning perspective. The previous committee did a great job and we salute them for it. You don’t always fly first time… Or second time according to podcast #2…
I know that my opinion will not get quite the audience as the BITC podcast because this is in the comments section, however I can only ask you guys to please be fair when expressing your opinions.
Thank you for your time.

I attended NEX and I thank the committee for their efforts.
However many things seem poorly organised and it looked as if some things were not organised until the last day. Other participants were also unsure about what was happening because there was inadequate information given to attendees. I suspect this was because the committee themselves did not know what was happening.
I suppose we all live and learn but things could have been done much better. Did the committee even realise how poorly things were planned? Did they realise that the participants did not know what was happening? I suspect not.

I look forward to your suggestions for improvement at info@brisbears.org.au. Ie I don’t want to totally hijack the BITC blog page. I am a progressive man and believe experience is a great teacher. What i’m after is solutions to problems you saw rather than complaints for complaint’s sake. A lot of things were planned in advance however there are some issues which did not appear to be avoidable. I already have a list of things I would do differently – enlisting more help is one of them.
I’m serious. Get in contact. info@brisbears.org.au.

Hi Dom and other men… Just a note to say that I really do enjoy listening to the podcasts and thanks for all the effort in producing them. I just wish they were published a little more frequently but, none the less, when they do appear they make for very entertaining listening. Many thanks. Yours magically Ross.
